Meet the Staff
Rachel Stavsky, Head Counselor
Rachel Stavsky, better known as “Morah Rachel,” is excited to begin her new position as head counselor at Camp Topeinu! Rachel was a staff member at Camp Topeinu for the past six years and is the lead teacher of the nursery class at Yeshiva Ketana of Manhattan. With a decade of early childhood experience, Rachel will ensure an environment which is safe, structured, and fun for all campers. Rachel’s compassion and kindness are second nature to everything she does. She knows that success comes from both innovative ideas for the group and a personal concern for each child and their parents. Rachel consistently creates exciting learning environments for her
students and campers with warmth and affection. When she is not teaching you can find Rachel on the UWS where she lives with her husband and two children. Rachel is looking forward to getting to know your children and creating a memorable summer.
Kate Nor, Program Coordinator
We are excited to welcome back Kate Nor to the Topeinu family. She was our Art Instructor eight summers ago and is excited to return as our new Program Coordinator. Kate has over 15 years of camp experience both as specialty staff and in leadership roles. Kate is a creative, out-of-the-box thinker who brings ideas to life with contagious energy and enthusiasm. She holds a dual Bachelor’s in Production Management and Visual Presentation and Exhibition Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology. She has worked in Fashion, Business and in the last several years has been running art programs in local Brooklyn schools and organizations. Kate lives in Brooklyn with her husband, four kids, two dogs and two parakeets.
Scott Miller, Director
As founder and director of Camp Topeinu, Scott takes pride in the steady growth the camp has seen since its inaugural summer in 2008. He attributes the success on keeping the program fresh by continually adding creative and exciting programs each summer along with the satisfied parent body (and of course their happy children). Scott brings with him over 25 years of experience working with Jewish children of all ages both in school, camp and youth group environments. He also serves as the Executive Director of Yeshiva Ketana of Manhattan (an affiliate of Camp Topeinu) since 2001. Scott brings passion, energy and vision to all aspects of Camp Topeinu and is available to answer any question you may have regarding any aspect of the camp.
Counselors and Junior Counselors
Each group is comprised of one counselor who brings her expertise as an educator during the school year with a degree in early childhood or elementary education. Each counselor is teamed up with capable junior counselors who have a love for children and experience working with them. Many of our counselors have been with us for years. All of our counselors and junior counselors are warm and filled with enthusiasm and energy. They care for their campers and make sure each camper is having fun and making friends! Our staff is an experienced team, who truly care about the safety, growth, and happiness of each camper.
